History of Via de Cristo of Ohio

Via de Cristo of Ohio began as Lutheran Cursillo of Ohio about one year before the first Men's Weekend on April 19-22, 1979. This weekend was held in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Norm Wittschen, a seminary student, at Trinity Seminary in Columbus, Ohio served as the first rector and worked collaboratively with the Lutheran Cursillo in Florida.

Women's Weekend #1 was held on November 8-11, 1979 at Bible Campground in Lancaster, Ohio. With these beginnings the Via de Cristo Weekends continued to grow. In 1996 Summer Weekends were added in Northeast Ohio for both men and women.

Through the Spring of 2014, there have been 73 Men's weekends and 77 Women's Weekend. With over 2500 participants. The governing body is the Secretariat and in 1987 we became incorporated as a non profit organization with the state of Ohio as Via de Cristo of Ohio.
